Open Studio 3.0
In its third evolutionary becoming, the Open Studio is an experimental, soft-time performance community and movement laboratory for mothers and creators who are curious about Dancing Mother’s practices and creations. Facilitated primarily through a soft-time engagement portal via Dancing Mother’s virtual community, the Open Studio is where Mother Mother previews works in progress and shares excerpts of developing movement sermons. She also offers generative movement invitations and conducts soft-time dance experiments to support increased activations of daily body brilliance and expanded applications of divine creation intelligence.
Read Mother Mother’s Journey to Soft-time
The magic of the Open Studio being a soft-time world is that we can “gather” together whenever we want, and from wherever we are on the globe. Mother Mother evolved to living in soft-time and developed the Open Studio after years of experimentation with time and place matters as a multitudinous mothering entity, as a mother who lives in close physical proximity to her children (nearly) all the time. What spaces could hold her and all her babies? How much labor did it take to move herself and her children from here to there?
Creating a Space for Togetherness
What began as a personal mission to create accessible space for her own dance practice has evolved into a conscious way of living that gives everyone more softness and spaciousness with which to live, create, play, and explore. In the Open Studio, members are free to engage in their own rhythms, keeping their own needs and priorities at the center. There is no obligation or expectation, only invitation and experimentation when it comes to how deeply or frequently participants engage.
Mother Mother welcomes members of the Open Studio to share their moments, practices and discoveries with the circle. She offers gentle feedback and possibilities for expansion when creators share their work and pose questions that can support everyone’s personal journeys. The Open Studio is a living laboratory for movement, and a conscious playground for dancing mothers to commune and move together.
Inside a dance moment with mother mother

Dancing with my children is a way of life
Learning how to share the space with my children is a central element of my creation rhythms. Being away from my children so that I could nurture my artistry has never been a real option for me. Understanding this early on—and then coming to deeply appreciate the expanded possibilities that being in constant proximity to them gave me—I began experimenting with how to be immersed in my creative practices while mothering. I dance when I am nourishing babies at the breast and when they are tied or strapped to my body. I map out workshops while cooking. I develop characters for my stories while changing diapers. I compose songs while doing laundry. Every moment becomes a fertile moment to create, and as my children grow older and more engaged as collaborators in my creative process, I realize more and more that being with them all the time enhances my creations. Noisy, demanding, and full of their own visions for what this moment can hold, they are also very generous with their ideas, questions, interpretations, and imagination. Being inside my creation rhythms when I’m with them is another way to access the abundance of my fertility and my dance.
